Sample Language: United Methodist Women
This resource provides sample language that can be used for bequests and endowment gifts to United Methodist Women.
Women's Division - Bequest:
" All ( or ___ % ) of the rest, residue and remainder of my estate, real, personal and mixed, which shall belong to me or be subject to my disposal or appointment by will, wheresoever situated, I give, devise and bequeath to the Women's Division of the General Board of Global Ministries of The United Methodist Church, with headquarters at 475 Riverside Drive, New York, New York, 10115, a New York not-for-profit corporation, that has been organized under the laws of the State of New York ("GBGM") and that has been exempted from payment of federal income taxes under section 501 (c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, for " undesignated purposes …..or designated for the programs/projects ) ......" and in the event that the said project/program terminates, then it shall be used for (.... states what do you want us to do with the bequest.... ) or in the event the General Board determines that for any reason whatsoever, including, but not limited to, political unrest, civil insurrection, inability to transfer funds because of currency restrictions, government restrictions or the like, a substantial change in the nature of the eleemosynary purposes of the beneficiaries, including the alienation from United Methodism of specific beneficiaries if they are presently affiliated with The United Methodist Church, then the said Women's Division may use the bequest for purposes other than that stated above, provided it is in such a manner as the Women's Division believes will best accomplish the fulfillment of the donor's intentions ".
Women's Division - Endowment Fund:
" All ( or ___ % ) of the rest, residue and remainder of my estate, real, personal and mixed, which shall belong to me or be subject to my disposal or appointment by will, wheresoever situated, I give, devise and bequeath to the Women's Division of the General Board of Global Ministries of The United Methodist Church, with headquarters at 475 Riverside Drive, New York, New York, 10115, a New York not-for-profit corporation, that has been organized under the laws of the State of New York ("GBGM") and that has been exempted from payment of federal income taxes under section 501 (c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, to hold it as an endowment fund under NYS Laws in honor of and under the name " ______________", with the income to be used for "undesignated purposes . ...or (designated for the programs/projects ) ......", and in the event that the said project/program terminates, then it shall be used for (.... states what do you want us to do with the bequest.... ) or in the event the Women's Division determines that for any reason whatsoever, including, but not limited to, political unrest, civil insurrection, inability to transfer funds because of currency restrictions, government restrictions or the like, a substantial change in the nature of the eleemosynary purposes of the beneficiaries of the endowment fund, including the alienation from United Methodism of specific beneficiaries if they are presently affiliated with The United Methodist Church, then the said Women's Division may use the income from the said endowment fund for purposes other than that stated above either on a permanent or temporary basis, provided it is in such a manner as the Women's Division believes will best accomplish the fulfillment of the purposes of this endowment fund ".
