Encounter with Christ in Latin America and the Caribbean
"Encounter with Christ in Latin America and the Caribbean" is a permanent mission fund that was established in 1992 after a consultation between United Methodist leaders, members of the Council of Evangelical Methodist Churches in Latin America and the Caribbean (CIEMAL) and the Methodist Church of the Caribbean and the Americas (MCCA).
A unique dimension of Encounter involves the distribution of mission support through a process of shared decision making by church leaders of the Latin American and Caribbean churches in partnership with leadership of the General Board of Global Ministries, considered to be an historic, innovative step forward in global Christian mission.
The General Board of Global Ministries administers the Encounter with Christ Permanent Fund #025100 using the income generated by the investment of the principal for mission outreach. Interest monies from the fund provide mission support in partnership with Methodist churches throughout Latin America and the Caribbean for programs with street children, evangelistic outreach, new church development, community based primary health care, lay and clergy training, and other ministries.
Through the end of 2008, forty mission projects in partnership with Methodist churches in fourteen countries and continent wide programs have received support in the amount of three hundred thousand dollars ($300,000) through CIEMAL and MCCA.
