Background / History

It is a remote area where families are living in abject poverty. There is a high level of unemployment. Families cannot afford to provide nutritious food for their household even when cultivating. The harvest is very poor because of the lack and poor quality of the soil. The children don't go to school because the parents cannot afford the school fees. All of these influence the high level of prostitution, unwanted pregnancies, drugs, vandalism, and HIV/AIDS.

Many women in the community provide nutritious food they find for their husbands, instead of children, because of the bad traditional practices, which have gotten worse.

Mission

To help women provide better food for their families, medical care for their families. To improve the quality of life in the communities of Kitwe and the Mwinilunga District (Mujila Falls, Kanyama, Kafwari, Kamini, Kapundu, and Nsweta).

Goals & Objectives

By the end of 12 months the health status of women and children selected will be improved.

Activities Plan

Identify the area. Identify the women and children. Hold classes to teach about nutrition. Teach women better ways to grow food for their families. Identify those who need vaccinations. Identify location for small clinic for those who need medical care.

Project Outcomes

In the short term, we will improve the health status of the children and women who are undernourished. In the long term, we will improve the quality of life of the community by teaching and sensitizing them to the benefits of better nutrition and medical care.

Project Indicators

Increased number of children who will be fed and discharged from the feeding center and the number of people who will attend the clinic. The number of people who will know their HIV status as a result of VCT (voluntary counseling and testing).
