Background / History

In keeping with its long-held ministry commitment to serve the poor and populations in despair, and to provide sound educational opportunities for them in Cote d'Ivoire, the Conference of the United Methodist Church, Cote d'Ivoire has worked to establish schools across the country since 1926. Many of the schools in The United Methodist School System of Cote d'Ivoire (UMSS-CI) are located in rural, economically depressed areas.

An increasing number of parents across the country, regardless of their ability to pay for education, want to have their children attend The United Methodist schools as the best educational option. Over the past 10 years, Cote d'Ivoire has faced internal political, economic, and military struggles that have impacted the country's financial and economic position.
