The Rev. Marilyn Beecher is a missionary with the General Board of Global Ministries of The United Methodist Church serving as a Church and Community Worker with the Church and Community Connection (CCC) of the Florida Annual Conference.
Marilyn shares with us the purpose of CCC, "CCC works to equip congregations for transformational mission. Individual congregations are supported while developing new outreach ministries and clusters of congregations serve together to provide ministry in strategic locations. Priorities include working with children and youth, disaster response, immigrants and hunger programs."
Rev. Beecher continues, "If we are really to do the work as disciples of Jesus Christ, we must listen for the cry of those in need. If churches are to live up to the call of the Gospel, then they cannot just care for their own members, but they must be engaged with the people around them and be beacons of hope for the community."
Prior to this assignment, Marilyn served as a Church and Community Worker in Miami working with three Haitian congregations to develop new outreach and evangelism ministries.
Marilyn’s other mission and ministry experiences include a tenure in Bulgaria from 1993 to 1997 as the first United Methodist missionary to serve after the fall of the communist government in that country; serving as a work team coordinator for the Miami District Disaster Response after Hurricane Andrew; nine years as the United Methodist Campus Minister at Florida International University in Miami; serving as director of Christian Education at Lakeside United Methodist Church in Lake Worth, FL; and as park minister in Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming.
Marilyn has a B.A. degree in humanities from Florida Southern College in Lakeland, FL, and an M.A. degree in Christian Education from Scarritt College in Nashville, TN.
