Assigned to the National Plan for Hispanic and Latino Ministries (NPHLM), the Rev. Roberto Martinez Calderon is serving as pastor with St. Andrews United Methodist Church in Albuquerque, NM, with the General Board of Global Ministries of The United Methodist Church.
Accepting Jesus as his personal savior in 1979, Roberto was active in the leadership of his church when he felt his call into ministry and mission while attending university to study law.
After a visit to Albuquerque, New Mexico, Rev. Calderon shares, ”Visiting Albuquerque and seeing the situation of extreme poverty and the lack of spiritual coverage in the immigrant community, I want to make more livable the situation in which people live. With 26 years experience in ministry I saw the opportunity to carry out missionary work and to establish an Hispanic church in the area.”
Born in Monterrey, Mexico, Rev. Calderon graduated from John Wesley Seminary in Monterrey in 1985. He was ordained into the Presbyterian ministry in 1989.
Rev. Calderon served as president of Conference Programs, administrative counsel to the President of John Wesley Seminary and later as a district superintendent.
Roberto and his wife, Laura Rodriguez, are the parents of three daughters, Elzabeth, Linet and Laura.
