Mozambique VIM Team Comes to Troy Conference

A team of Volunteers in Mission from the Mozambique Central Conference will be coming to Troy Annual Conference in the spring of 2003. The following is a statement of invitation from Troy Conference sent to the team in preparation for this mission.

"Our primary purpose for this Volunteers in Mission (VIM) experience is to glorify and honor God. So in preparation for engaging the VIM team from the Mozambique Area coming to Troy Conference in May 2003, we would like to let you know about the kind of help we are looking for from your team.

"Most important is our need to have you present among us! Your being with us allows us to continue to learn about being in relationship with you in a way that is based on mutuality, not on paternalism. Your presence among us helps to strengthen the relationship we have with each other.

"The 1998 Mozambican VIM team infused our conference with joy and inspiration! We heard exciting stories about the work of the church in Mozambique and about the development of your country since peace had been established. You shared challenges and concerns that you wanted us to know about. As brothers and sisters in Christ, you also reminded us that we are one United Methodist Church . We need to make space in our lives so that we can continue to learn from you.

"While the physical distance between us remains unchanged, we know that since 1998 our relationship has grown stronger and deeper. We now have the opportunity to build on the foundation that began with a Troy Conference team visiting Mozambique in 1990. Subsequently the relationship was further developed through eight VIM teams to Mozambique and, further strengthened through the unique call from God to invite a Mozambican VIM team to Troy Conference in 1998. By continuing to deepen our mutual relationship through the VIM 2003 experience, we can dream together about what we can do to challenge the church in the 21st century to respond to the needs of the world, especially the children."
