Individual Volunteer Opportunities: CARIBBEAN

BAHAMAS

Bahamas Methodist Habitat. Location: Camp Symonette, James Cistern, Eleuthera, Bahamas. Request a middle/upper aged couple willing to serve in a behind the scenes manner. Food preparation, general cleaning, clerical, leading construction teams. Arrive end of May (but flexible) and stay 3-6 months. Dorm or efficiency apartment and food (while teams present) provided.

DOMINICAN REPUBLIC

COPA (Community Partners, Inc.)

1.Nurse Advisor for 2-year term. Small monthly stipend, insurance, housing and utilities, round-trip ticket provided.

2. Education Adviser for a 2 year contract. A local stipend provided.

3. Volunteer needed to do finances - account management, some oversight of maintenance personnel, be an office manager (answering phones, ordering supplies). Spanish spoken; volunteer must have a willingness to learn it.

GRENADA

1. Person to do pastoral work in a small congregation (38 members) on the Island of Carriacou near Grenada. Time frame requested is at least one year. Living accommodations are provided.

2. Grenada Community Development Agency (GRENCODA), an indigenous, non-profit, non-partisan, non-government development agency committed to the development of Grenada's rural communities. Volunteer needed to participate in and observe GRENCODA's rural community-based activities in order to effectively market the agency and conduct fundraising in the USA/Canada. Needed 2-3 months during June-August. 2 bedroom furnished house provided with cost to volunteer of $200-$225 per month.

HAITI

Individual volunteers placed in consultation with the Volunteers In Mission Coordinators.

Volunteer with minimal Creole/French needed to assist the Haitian Artisans for Peace International (HAPI) cooperative, located in Mizak, Haiti. This is a Haitian small business of embroidering designs for gift cards to be sold to an international market. This fair-trade endeavor will be guided by a US team. Prefer a volunteer willing to commit to 6 months helping 30 women in the mountain village of Mizak (near Jacmel). Volunteer costs of $600 per month will cover room, all meals and laundry service. Critical skills required include ability to help the women establish systems that can deliver a quality product and achieve the level of reliability required in the international marketplace, basic bookkeeping/filing/reporting, and leadership/spiritual mentoring. Preferred qualities include a solid understanding of design basics and experience in embroidery.

ST. VINCENT and GRENADINES (West Indies)

Pastoral work (Circuit ministry) - pastoral responsibility for four congregations. Will work in a circuit with other ministers. Prefer at least 6 month commitment.
