Individual Volunteer Opportunities - Pastoral

CONGO, Democratic Republic of

• Seminary at Mulungwishi - Pastors to teach at the seminary. Request that the volunteer be flexible, self-starters, and speak French. 


• Project Women and Youth Programmes, Nakaru. Work with women and children in such areas as HIV/AIDS prevention, income generation projects, life skills.

• United Methodist Orphans Home, Nakaru. Any and all kinds of work with orphans and street children - play, education, life skills.

• Evangelism, Training and Church Planting, Nakaru. Preach in churches, crusades, and open air meetings. Conduct leaders and pastors trainings. Do church planting and film ministry project. 


• The United Methodist University in Monrovia: Vice-President for Institutional Development (MA or PhD required), 2-year term; Vice-President for Academic Affairs (PhD required), 2 years or more; volunteer accountant to serve as Comptroller (MA in Accounting required), 2 years or more. 


• Africa University, Mutare: university teaching/research/supervision of undergraduate and post-graduate students in the following disciplines: agriculture/natural resources, business, education, arts and social sciences, health sciences, and theology; teaching of ESL; librarian; development of student welfare services; some assignments in the General Services, Clinic and Farm areas. Housing provided.

Asia / Pacific


• Teach church school teachers, train people in writing Bible study materials, train youth leaders; stewardship training; teach basic computer skills, accounting skills on a computer, maintenance of computers. Housing provided. Knowledge of Khmer would be helpful. 


• Vellore Hospital, Vellore: long-term medical volunteers (6 months to 1 year). Professionals in Medical, Surgical, Specialties, Computers, Management, Finance, Clergy. 


• Fukuno Aoba Preschool and 2 other schools in Toyama Prefecture: preschool teacher to teach English and Western culture for Japanese children ages 4 and 5, and weekly English Bible classes for high school students. Experience in children's education preferred.

• Kyoai Gakuen, Maebashi, Gumma Prefecture: Junior-senior high school English teacher for 2-year term. TEFL or TESL certification helpful but not required. Also, teach a Bible study class, teach English conversation to elementary students, lead chapel and help with spiritual life retreats. Salary /housing provided, plus round-trip airfare for 2-year volunteers.

• Joshi Seigakuin, Tokyo: woman teacher for a 2 or 3-year term. Master's degree or ESL major preferred. Also, lead chapel, help with spiritual life retreats, help with clubs and other activities. Salary and housing provided, plus round-trip airfare for 2-year volunteers. 


Volunteers must serve with the United Mission to Nepal (UMN) for 6 months or longer; 1 or 2 year commitments are preferred.

• Peace and Reconciliation Coordinator: qualifications and extensive experience in peace and conflict transformation. A long term position, working closely with a Nepali who could take on the role within 2-4 years.

• Advocacy Coordinator: a long term post working closely with a Nepali who could take on the role in 2-4 years. Qualifications and extensive experience in any aspect of advocacy at any level, e.g. community mobilization, human rights, or at the legal and policy level.

• Personnel Director: lead the personnel team in encouraging the best possible people management within UMN, including the development and implementation of appropriate strategies in organizational development, recruitment, employee involvement, human resources development, performance management, and remuneration.



• Bahamas Conference, The Methodist Church: volunteer pastors for 3-month, 6-month, or 12-month terms in Andros, North Eleuthera, Bimini, and Inagua. Housing and stipend provided. 


• Pastors - counseling, visitation of the sick, ministering to families, preaching. Min. 2 months 


• Pastoral work (Circuit ministry) - pastoral responsibility for four congregations. Will work in a circuit with other ministers. Prefer at least 6 month commitment.



• Plzen 3 United Methodist Church: teach English to church members, Bible study in English, minor repairs in church facilities (painting, cleaning).

• Trebon United Methodist Church: teach English, assist with evangelization, work with children. 2-3 months. Housing provided.

• Vrsovice UMC, Praha (Prague): teach English, conversation, music, lead a home group. 


• Tbilisi Youth House: an individual with knowledge of how to organize a volunteer program for youth is needed to establish a permanent Tbilisi Youth House Volunteer Program. Skills needed: organizational ability, "people skills," good assessment experience, willingness to help raise minimum funds to keep the program going year round. Expectations include general service projects for youth, establishment of intern possibilities, and building in Public Relations techniques for the Tbilisi city community. 


• Lithuania United Methodist Church: ordained clergy person to assist with pastoral work (worship and tasks as determined by the Lithuanian UMC). As soon as possible, 3 months to one year. Translator available, at volunteer's expense. 


• Piestany: help plant a United Methodist Church in Piestany by working with the youth, inviting people to church, preaching and leading worship, and helping the pastor organize activities. Ability to play a musical instrument and/or lead music, dramas, or puppetry would be a plus. 1 year or more. 


• Misión Urbana, Barcelona: pastoral counselors, Spanish required.



• Pastor for English Language Congregations. In the cities of Guanajuato and San Miguel, a number of North Americans have retired. The opportunity for outreach with an English language congregation, both to permanent English-speaking residents, as well as to a large number of tourists is a priority of the Central Conference of the Methodist Church of Mexico. In Guanajuato, the church has a sanctuary in the city center where no one meets now. In San Miguel, the work is to start a congregation in a city where land has been purchased. Needed: A firm faith in Christ and an understanding of the Methodist connection, with a call to evangelization, flexibility and a willingness to be under ecclesial authority. Small stipend for food and travel.

• Alabama Rural Ministry (ARM), Livingston or Tuskegee: summer employment for college age students in a home repair and day camp ministry serving ethnic minority children ages 5- 12. Host volunteer teams or serve as day camp counselors. Housing, most meals, stipend. (RV) 


• Agape Community Clinic, East Dallas: help provide health and spiritual care services, crafts, English as a Second Language, Bible study and fellowship. Volunteers needed: physicians, physician assistants, nurses, translators (Spanish, Vietnamese, Cambodian), office assistants, social workers, patient advocates, chaplains, and spiritual care persons (ordained or lay).

• Arlington Urban Ministries, Arlington: work in storefront ministry, Laundromat ministry, Bible School, puppet shows, teach citizenship, life skills, nonviolence and ESL.
