Meet the Mission Volunteers Staff

The vitality of the volunteer movement within The United Methodist Church is one of the most exciting things happening in the church today. Volunteers testify to lives transformed and congregations renewed as they become involved in this kind of mission outreach. New relationships are developed with persons from other cultures and traditional walls of division are torn away as we risk involvement in response to God's call to Christian mission.

The Mission Volunteers Program Area of The General Board of Global Ministries enables the participation of persons from throughout the world in global mission volunteer programs and projects. Through these efforts, affirming, empowering and trusting relationships are established. Putting our faith into action is at the heart of our Christian calling. Through Mission Volunteers, everyone in the church has the opportunity to serve and share the love of God in ways that make a Christian difference.

The Mission Volunteers Program Area is not a replacement for the grass roots United Methodist Volunteers In Mission (UMVIM) program. Our responsibility is to provide support and resources for all global mission volunteer programs including UMVIM and many others.

The United Methodist Church recognizes the important role of volunteers in enabling the church in mission to the world. During the 1996 General Conference of The United Methodist Church, a structure was approved for GBGM that makes Mission Volunteers one of the six major program areas. Responsibilities of this program area include linking with the UMVIM program, as well as facilitating all the other ways that volunteers get involved in ministering to others and providing service for mission programs.

Volunteers are important resources in all kinds of mission institutions, in local outreach ministries, and in our work with our mission partners.
