Financial Development:
Connecting Global Needs to Mission Channels

With a directed focus around three components: mission advocacy, church partnerships and donor cultivation; Financial Development works to coordinate the stewardship of the many mission components of the General Board of Global Ministries.

Mission Advocacy:

Both the Great Commission of Jesus: "Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations ... " Matthew 28:19a (NRSV), and a quotation generally attributed to John Wesley: "Do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, in all the places you can, at all the times you can, to all the people you can, as long as ever you can, " exhort United Methodists to the work of mission. Mission is an important part of who we are as people of faith.

Church Partnerships:

From the local congregation to the district to the annual conference to the jurisdictions and central conferences, United Methodists are members of a connectional church. Financial Development works to establish and nurture church partnerships at many levels.

Donor Cultivation:

Through collaboration within Global Ministries, as well as other boards and agencies across The United Methodist Church, Financial Development works with and cultivates donors who make ministries of mission and relief realities.

Resident in the Office of Development, Financial Development has a planned giving function that assists individuals in exploring ways of supporting the mission of The United Methodist Church. Through planned gifts, a variety of creative and rewarding opportunities are available for both current and deferred gifts. Dedicated staff are available to consult with individuals and groups seeking to contribute to the vast mission initiatives across the United States and around the globe.

Individuals and congregations wishing to learn more about ways to partner in mission are invited to contact the Office of Development. The opportunities abound, while individual faith journeys are strengthened through the gifts to and from participation in mission.
