United Methodists around the world have a vital connection with the Amistad incident. This modern Sierra Leone Annual Conference has important historical links with the Amistad revolt that took place 158 years ago.
In 1870 the United Brethren in Christ invited an African-American couple to take over the mission in Sierra Leone. Results eventually confirmed that this was a brilliant decision.
