New Management Plan for Child Safety

As of December 17, 2010, the Child Safety and Protection Office of the United Methodist General Board of Global Ministries will be managed by a team led by the director of human resources and the executive in charge of missionary services.

After every Global Ministries board of directors meeting, this office will post updates regarding the progress on following the recommendations laid out by the Independent Panel for the Review of Child Abuse in Mission Settings.

 

Final Report of Independent Panel for the Review of Child Abuse in Mission Settings: 2009

A three-member panel was authorized in 2004 by directors of Global Ministries to investigate allegations of the abuse of children by mission personnel of The United Methodist Church in Zaire (now the Democratic Republic of Congo) in the period between 1945 and 1978.

United Methodists are concerned about maintaining physical and sexual safety, emotional well-being, and spiritual health of children, youth, and adults.

 

Independent Panel for Review of Child Abuse in Mission Settings: Democratic Republic of Congo

A retired United Methodist bishop and two professors in the field of medical care make up an independent panel that receives and assesses reports on alleged child abuse more than 30 years ago at a denominational mission facility in what is today the Democratic Republic of Congo.

 

Final Bulletin, December 5, 2008: The Independent Panel

This is the fifth and Final Bulletin of the Independent Panel for Review of Child Abuse in Mission Settings, The United Methodist Church, and its activities. As stated in Bulletin 4, May 2008, in compliance with the Charge as stated by GBGM, the endpoint for the completion of the Panel's mission and work is December 31, 2008.
