Providing nutritionally formulated meals for children for distribution by relief organizations

Partner : Feed My Starving Children
Location : Global, Global
Annual Goal : $50,000.00
Amount YTD : $14,722.00

Background / History

The organization was started in 1987 by a Minnesota businessman responding to Christ's call to "Feed My Starving Children." His response evolved into the present program that relies on volunteers to pack meals formulated to provide the nutrients children need to grow and thrive. The meals are distributed in more than 50 countries through humanitarian relief organizations. Many missions that receive meals need more than we are able to send.

Since FMSC was rededicated to Christ in 2003, production has grown from three million meals to 42 million meals in 2007.

Mission

Our mission is to answer Christ's call to feed His starving children, hungry in body and spirit. We provide nutritious meals to children who would most likely die without them. We are a sustaining program that will continue to provide meals to a mission until it is self-sufficient. At the same time, our volunteers are educated and spiritually fed through their very tangible involvement with our organization.

Goals & Objectives

Our goal is to pack 55 million meals in fiscal year 2008-2009 and 100 million meals each year by 2010.

Activities Plan

In 2008 we expanded into our second metro area, Chicago, Illinois. Our Aurora-Naperville site opened in April, and our second Chicagoland site is underway. On March 1 we relocated our Eagan, Minnesota, facility to a site twice as large as the former site. We also will move to a larger Brooklyn Park, Minnesota site this year. We are conducting a $12 million capital campaign and are exploring cost-saving transportation and operations options.

Project Outcomes

Children who would have otherwise died will not only live, but also are able to go to school and learn so that they can make more positive contributions to their countries. Families and communities have hope, and many come to know Christ because He is acknowledged as the source of the meals they receive from our humanitarian relief and mission partners. Volunteers of all ages and capabilities participate in something truly worthwhile when they pack our meals.

The experience often taps a feeling of self worth, kindles the passion to serve those less fortunate and provides a real solution to a devastating global issue.

Project Indicators

We will produce and ship the number of meals targeted for each year. We monitor annual goals with week by week and month by month packing goals for each of our sites. Those goals are accompanied by fundraising goals to ensure that we have the revenue to purchase the ingredients needed to meet meal goals.
