Advance # 14582ACaring for children who are orphans or whose parents cannot afford to take care of them
Background / HistoryAbout ten years ago, Mrs. Peter Lee shard a dream with her bible study group of building a Christian orphanage in her deceased husband's hometown. Together, the two of them had worked in various orphanages and seen the vast need. Various Tulsa United Methodists heard of her vision and the district sent a team to China to assess the feasibility of building such a home. After becoming an official district project in 2003, fundraising began for construction. MissionThe home offeres a Christian setting for children whose parents have either died or become otherwise unable to care for their children. Goals & ObjectivesTo continue to provide quality residential care for 25-40 children in a loving, Chrisian environment. Activities PlanThe Tulsa District UMC's Happy Children's Home Committee will continue to support the goals and objectives of the home by 1) continuing to fundraise for the ongoing operations of the home; 2) stay in close contact with the home's administrator and the Happy Children's Home Committee in China 3) make approximately annual trips to the home to continue to have a close partnership with the home's staff, the local committee and government officials, and the children. Project OutcomesChildren will grow up in a safe, financially stable, loving home with Christian teachinds and values, enabling them to enter society as adults with the skills and values to thrive and enrich their world with the love and message of Jesus Christ.
