Goals & Objectives

1. To help 300 cataract patients restore their vision per year;
2. To raise awareness about cataract blindness as an operable disease at affordable costs;
3. To build up a network for case finding, referrals, and operations at the local county, township and village doctor levels;
4. To aim at 95% post operative vision above 0.1 and 85% post operative vision above 0.3;
5. To improve surgical skills of the surgeons in Lijiang, Yunnan by involving them in larger volumes of cataract surgeries (300 per year);

Activities Plan

1. Publicity - Two thousand leaflets will be distributed in the targeted county and together with television public service announcements, information will be dispersed about the availability of cataract operations.
2. Records - These are kept of all patients identified through screening and beyond. Also records are kept of donated materials, etc.
3. Training - Over four years, 40 trainees, including doctors from county and township hospitals as well as local health administrators, will be trained by ophthalmologists from Lijiang People's Hospital. Trainees will then be expected to:
