Diane Allen

Diane Allen is a United Methodist missionary assigned to serve as China Program Associate with the United Methodist China Program of the General Board of Global Ministries of the United Methodist Church.

Her responsibilities include: 1) working with ecumenical China Programs, coordinating educational opportunities and designing seminars for sharing information about China, the Christian churches there and the work of the Amity Foundation; 2) managing the United Methodist China Program Oral History Project, a collection of eye-witness accounts that spans nearly 100 years of events relating to missionary work in China; 3)contributing articles for publication in church magazines and on websites; 4) working with church-related study opportunities with China; 5) collecting additional oral history interviews; and 6) travelling to and liaising with church leaders and colleagues in China.

Diane says of her experience, "One of the most important things I've learned is the beauty of simplicity, even when a culture is 5000 years old! I am committed to the necessity of living simply, so that others may simply live."

A native of Enola, Pennsylvania she holds the B.A. degree in criminal justice administration from Mansfield State College in Pennsylvania. Also, she studied the Chinese language (Mandarin) at Working Men's College, London, England.

Diane has served with the GBGM's United Methodist China Program since 1987, when she was assigned to the program's Hong Kong office. She served in Hong Kong as Acting China Liaison before returning to the Board's New York City offices as China Program Associate. She is now resident in the United Kingdom where she continues serving as China Program Associate. Before her mission service she served six years as director of public relations for the United Methodist Home for Children in Mechanicsburg, PA.

Diane is affiliated with the Central Pennsylvania Annual Conference. She enjoys cooking, vegetable gardening and rarely turns down an opportunity to go fishing.
